“My dream was to have a house on the river like the one I had when I was young”….and that dream, back in 1999, sparked a major renovation project on a fifteenth century building of extreme historical and architectural importance but in terrible condition after botched building work, lack of maintenance and the surrounding area being left untended. La Casa Sul Fiume opened its doors to the first guests just eight years after work started, in 2008, when the Italian Alpine Regiment held its National Rally in Bassano del Grappa.

After years of hard work improving the access road, ensuring the building’s compliance with regulations and its complete renovation, Ivan’s dream came true and, with the precious help of his father, Francesco, Ivan saw his house on the river come back to life.

This is the ideal location if you love sport and river-based recreational activities, if you want to relax and enjoy a good book on the riverbank and if you appreciate the slow pace of a unique natural setting. The area enjoys a mild climate and there are plenty of natural springs in the surrounding area. Fontanazzi is a little place famous for its Karst caves, through which the crystal clear spring waters from nearby Monte Grappa flow.

La Casa sul Fiume Country House is part of the Km del Rafting, which is the result of Ivan Pontarollo’s idea of uniting all of the accommodation, recreational and sports facilities in the Brenta Valley. The surrounding forests, the ancient smugglers’ trails, the Caves of Oliero, the Brenta river and the riverbanks conceal breathtaking natural views and historical features of a time when man, land and river lived in harmony.
